BMS Curriculum Plan Guidance
The Campus BMS Application requires you to include a Blended Application Curriculum Plan. Here is guidance on how to complete the form. Similar guidance applies to Working and Final Formal Study Plans.
Pre-Blended Worksheet
- All unit counts for degree programs (e.g., TOTAL DEGREE UNITS, Current Degree Total) and progress toward degree refer to degree applicable units for the blended (BS + MS) portion of your degree. They exclude any minor courses or double-major courses that are not part of the blend.
- The current catalog total units for the paired programs are:
- BS CS: 180 quarter units
- BS SE: 183 quarter units
- BS CPE: 191 quarter units
- MS CS: 45 quarter units or 30 semester units
- Use your Degree Progress Report (DPR) to list all courses, including courses you are taking this quarter, needed to complete your BS degree requirements for your paired degree. This excludes minor and double-major courses.
Blended Curriculum Plan
- Refer to the department policy on double-counting prior to completing the double-counting section. Double-counted courses go into the “BEFORE” box near the top of the spreadsheet.
- The first term in your plan should be the term you are submitting the campus “BMS Application” (most likely the current term). If your plan starts in Spring 26 only use one of the three “Year One” boxes.
- You need to transition the term your degree applicable units pass the total required units for your paired BS degree (see table above for unit examples).
- You must include the following courses in your plan:
- CSC 5590 (3 semester units) – Thesis Seminar
- Research in Computer Science. Must be one of two options:
- CSC 5591 (2 semester units)
- Take research senior project and include an additional 2 semester units of 5000 level coursework
- CSC 5599 (4 semester units) – Thesis
- Use the semester catalog for class numbers and units in your plan. See https://catalog.calpoly.edu .
- At least 60% of the units must be at the 500/5000 level.
